Everything you need to know before booking a winter experience with Q5 Safaris in Ylläs.
- What to wear
- Bring warm layers you can add and remove. We provide thermal outerwear where needed, but good base layers, warm socks and sturdy winter boots make the day far more comfortable.
- Winter clothing
- Thermal clothing is provided for all activities booked through us. If you would like to have the winter clothing for the duration of your stay at Hotel Ylläshumina it is possible to rent the clothing at 80€ per week. However, if you book 3 or more activities with us the thermal clothing is included free of charge for the duration of your stay at Ylläs Humina.
- Weather and changing conditions
- Arctic conditions change quickly. We adapt routes and timing to the day's weather and snow. Your guide will explain the plan before setting off.
- Children and families
- Children are welcome on many experiences. Age and participation rules differ by activity — please check each experience page or contact us before booking.
- Snowmobile driving licences
- A valid car driving licence is required to drive a snowmobile in Finland. Passengers ride on the snowmobile behind the driver or alternatively in a sled pulled by the guide.
- Alcohol and snowmobile driving
- Driving a snowmobile under the influence of alcohol is not permitted. Our guides will refuse participation if a guest is impaired, for everyone's safety.
- Physical requirements
- Most experiences are suitable for people with an average level of fitness. Longer tours and husky mushing are more active — read each experience's details before booking.
- Transfers and meeting points
- Most snowmobile, snowshoe and skiing experiences start at the Q5 Safari House in Äkäslompolo. Husky safaris include a transfer to the kennel in Luosu.
- Food and dietary requirements
- Where meals are included, the guide prepares food over a fire. Please tell us about allergies and diets in advance so we can plan accordingly.
- Private experiences
- Private and tailor-made departures can be arranged. Tell us your group, dates and wishes via the private & group enquiry form.
- Weekly programme
- Selected experiences follow a seasonal weekly programme. Outside the programme, safaris can be arranged for a minimum group size on request.
- Booking confirmation
- Your experience is confirmed only when you receive a booking confirmation. Submitting an enquiry is not a booking.
- Changes and cancellations
- Cancellation terms apply. Please read the full Terms & Conditions before booking.
- Travel insurance
- We recommend travel insurance that covers winter activities. Check that your policy includes snowmobiling and other activities you plan to do.
- How to find Q5 Safaris
- Tiurajärventie 27, FI-95970 Äkäslompolo, Finland. The safari house is situated within the main building of Ylläshumina.
- Temperature limits
- Please be aware that in extreme cold temperatures your tour may be rescheduled or the tour itself may be shortened for safety reasons.
